Odermatt um drei Hundertstel am erneuten Sieg vorbei

Marco Odermatt verpasst den Doppelsieg in den Weltcup-Super-G in Beaver Creek um einen Hauch. Der Nidwaldner wird am Tag nach dem überlegenen Triumph hinter dem Norweger Aleksander Kilde Zweiter.

Es ging deutlich knapper zu und her im zweiten Super-G des Winters als am Donnerstag, sehr knapp sogar. Um drei Hundertstel musste sich Odermatt Kilde geschlagen geben. Dabei hatte der Innerschweizer die Vorteile gegenüber dem Nordländer lange Zeit auf seiner Seite. Bei Streckenhälfte hatte er noch 32 Hundertstel Vorsprung ausgewiesen.

Als Team vermochten die Schweizer nicht mehr so zu überzeugen wie am Vortag. Zweitbester Fahrer von Swiss-Ski war Gino Caviezel. Rang 9 bedeutete für den Bündner das Bestresultat in einem Super-G. Beat Feuz belegte Platz 14, Loïc Meillard, dem erneut ein zeitraubender Fehler unterlief, Platz 20.

Kildes grosse Rückkehr

Odermatt musste sich einem Fahrer geschlagen geben, der ein schwieriges Jahr hinter sich hat. Mitte Januar hatte Kilde im Training auf der Reiteralm einen Kreuzbandriss im rechten Knie erlitten und deswegen unter anderem die Weltmeisterschaft in Cortina d’Ampezzo verpasst. Umso beeindruckender meldete sich der Gesamtweltcupsieger des vorletzten Winters nun zurück – in seinem erst dritten Rennen seit der Verletzung.

Kildes Sieg, der siebte im Weltcup, hatte auch etwas von Revanche. Vor zwei Jahren hatte der mit Mikaela Shiffrin liierte Norweger im Super-G in Beaver Creek in einer ebenfalls engen Entscheidung gegen Odermatt den Kürzeren gezogen. Eine Zehntelsekunde war der Schweizer damals bei seinem ersten Sieg im Weltcup schneller gewesen.

Odermatt mochte am Freitag nicht gross über die drei Hundertstel sinnieren – zum einen, weil er Kilde zu seinen guten Kollegen zählt, zum anderen wegen dessen Vorgeschichte. Vielmehr hob er die Schwierigkeit hervor, einen Tag nach seinem dominanten Auftritt die Spannung wieder aufzubauen.

Weiter Raum für Verbesserungen

Dass er trotzdem nahe dran war an seinem zweiten Sieg innert 23 Stunden, zeigt das Niveau, auf dem sich Odermatt mittlerweile bewegt. Diesen Standard hat er auf diesen Winter hin durch konsequente Arbeit noch einmal steigern können – und weiss seine sportliche Entwicklung noch längst nicht abgeschlossen. Er sieht in allen relevanten Bereichen weiteren Raum für Verbesserungen. Er sagt es bestimmt, und es tönt nicht überheblich. Die Zuhörer glauben es ihm. Die Konkurrenten werden es auch mitbekommen – und sich ihre Gedanken gemacht haben.

Die Erfolge bringen auch zusätzliches Selbstvertrauen, den Glauben an die eigene Stärke, aus dem Odermatt nie einen Hehl gemacht hat. Diese Symbiose zwischen Körper und Geist wiederum ist der perfekte Nährboden für Grosstaten als Skirennfahrer. Odermatt scheint sich in der Rolle des Favoriten wohl zu fühlen, zumindest betrachtet er sie nicht als Belastung. Das Wort Druck scheint in seinem Vokabular nicht vorzukommen. Lobeshymnen mag er nicht überbewerten; das verbale Schulterklopfen nimmt es zur Kenntnis, mehr nicht.

Odermatt weiss die Euphorie um seine Person ebenso gut einzuschätzen wie sein Leistungsvermögen. Ob als Sieger oder als knapp geschlagener Zweiter.
