Octavia Spencer has revealed that her house is haunted by the ghost of a Western movie star, saying she ‘loves him’ because he chases away any ‘bad people’ who shouldn’t be on her property.
‘I need to know about your house being haunted, because I really love stories like this,’ DeGeneres, 63, told the actress, adding: ‘I do believe in ghosts.’
‘I do too,’ Spencer agreed, before dishing about her paranormal roommate. ‘I grew up watching Westerns, and I bought this house, and it was owned by a guy who did Westerns, so I must have been a fan of his.’
The Hidden Figures star purchased her 1,714-square-foot Toluca Lake bungalow for $841,500 in 2013. The three-bedroom, two-bathroom property is modest in size for a movie star but has plenty of charm, including a ghost, apparently.
‘I think he is my protector,’ Spencer said. I love him, because he kind of sorts out the bad people that shouldn’t be there. He runs them out.’
‘If they stay at my place, they don’t wanna come back,’ she explained, laughing. ‘And that’s how I know that they don’t belong here. If you’re a person that belongs there, everybody is like, “Oh, your place is so welcoming. It’s so great.” And that’s how I feel about it.’
DeGeneres was curious to know if Spencer’s ghost has ever caused any unexplained physical disturbances inside her home.
‘Well, when I leave for a long time he’s a little shady. The doors close, the lights go off when I turn them on,’ she admitted. ‘The only problem — I love my ghost, I just don’t want you bringing your ghost to my house.
‘I don’t want anybody’s ghost thinking they can be friends with my ghost,’ she added. ‘My ghost can haunt me, but he doesn’t haunt me. We have boundaries.’
The conversation took another turn when DeGeneres and Spencer shared that they both also believe in UFOs.
‘I had an encounter while we were filming “Encounter.” Our whole crew did,’ the actress said of the sci-fi thriller, which was released on Friday.
‘All of a sudden there were all these lights in the sky, and we were about to shoot the big scene at the end of the film and the lights — it was just a million of them — and they started getting smaller and smaller,’ she recalled.
Spencer filmed the brief encounter and shared footage of the moment on Friday’s show, admitting that she ‘thought the video was longer.’
‘It’s only like seven seconds because it started disappearing. I’m like, “Wait!” It doesn’t look like anything it did in the sky,’ she said, insisting the lights weren’t from a plane coming into sight. ‘They just appeared and started disappearing.’
She added: ‘I hope the men in black don’t come for me’
Spencer couldn’t hold back her excitement when stills of her video were blown up behind them after the footage aired.
‘See! Look, look!’ she yelled before calming herself down. ‘I mean, oh look.’
‘No, that’s not a plane,’ DeGeneres agreed.
Spencer, who was promoting her new movie, admitted the experience was more than she had bargained for.
‘I’ve always wanted a close encounter,’ she said, ‘but that was a little too close on a movie called “Encounter.’Internet Explorer Channel Network
