Ohio State women’s basketball moves up six spots in AP poll after upset over Iowa
COLUMBUS, Ohio (WCMH) — Ohio State women’s basketball garnered national headlines on Sunday and have moved up in the national rankings.
The Buckeyes (15-3, 6-1) have moved up six spots to No. 12 in the new Associated Press rankings after its marquee upset over the Iowa Hawkeyes 100-92 in an overtime thriller in Columbus. Iowa dropped from No. 2 to No. 5 after just its second defeat of the season.

Ohio State’s win over Caitlin Clark and the Hawkeyes on NBC4 was in front of a record crowd of more than 18,500 fans at Value City Arena. Forward Cotie McMahon led the team to the OT win with a double-double, scoring 33 points and grabbing 12 rebounds.
As Buckeyes fans stormed the court, one OSU fan ran into Clark. Both were knocked to the ground, and medics checked on the Iowa star while the fan got to their feet and continued celebrating. Clark said she was “OK” after the collision.
Before OSU’s upset over the Hawkeyes, they defeated Maryland on Wednesday 84-76 on the road. The Buckeyes are on a five-game winning streak and remain perfect to start 2024.
They hope to extend that streak on Thursday when they play at Illinois at 7 p.m. That game can be streamed live on Peacock. OSU will conclude the week on Sunday afternoon with an away game versus Purdue.
