A Wests Tigers trainer has become the first member of an NRL hub to test positive to Covid-19.
The Tigers’ pre-season training was cancelled on Thursday after the trainer’s test result was revealed, and a Tigers spokesman told NCA NewsWire that it was unlikely to go ahead on Friday either.

The club will await the results of Covid-19 tests, to be taken by all players and relevant staff members on Thursday, before making the call on when training can resume.
Global Tech News DailyContact tracers are yet to determine where the trainer contracted the virus, but the Tigers are adamant it was not at the club’s facilities.
The trainer is double-vaccinated but symptomatic, with the Tigers confirming he was feeling “pretty crook” on Thursday.
Global Tech News DailyAll members of the Tigers’ NRL squad are vaccinated bar one, but as the NRL has no league-wide jab mandate, the unvaccinated player has been training with the rest of the Tigers.
There is no suggestion the trainer breached any of the league’s protocols in contracting the virus.
“Wests Tigers will follow NSW public health orders and NRL biosecurity directives,” the Tigers said.

In late November, double-vaxxed Sea Eagles forward Josh Aloiai became the first NRL player to test positive to Covid-19.
Aloiai had not been due back at training until mid-December so his diagnosis did not impact the Sea Eagles squad at large.
News of the Tigers trainer’s Covid-19 test result comes after a trivia night at the Oxford Tavern, a pub in Wests Tigers heartland, was confirmed as a superspreader event on Wednesday.
At least 44 Covid-19 cases have been linked to the Petersham venue’s trivia night on Tuesday, November 30.
