NRK: Norway's government is introducing entry restrictions for travelers from several countries in Africa

NRK: Norway’s government is introducing entry restrictions for travelers from several countries in Africa

Like several other European countries, Norway is introducing entry restrictions for travelers from several African countries to prevent the spread of the new coronavirus variant.

The variant, named B. 1.1.529, has led the European Commission to propose a halt to air traffic from countries in southern Africa.

The United Kingdom, Italy, and Germany have already introduced entry restrictions.

Norway is now following suit, Prime Minister Støre stated in an interview with Norwegian Broadcasting (NRK).

“Everyone who comes (to Norway) from these countries must be quarantined so that we can stop them from getting the infection here,” he told NRK.

He added that this means that travelers from the aforementioned countries will have to go to quarantine hotels. However, they will be able to leave the quarantine after they test negative for the virus, Støre noted.

On Friday, the World Health Organization (WHO) warned against the rapid introduction of new travel restrictions related to the new virus variant.
