Norwegian immunologist believes booster doses may slow down the spread of omicron

A booster dose of the corona vaccine could be able to slow down the infection and get us through the winter, Norwegian immunologist Fridtjof Lund-Johansen believes.

“When you have received the third dose, you not only have more antibodies, but you also have antibodies that are qualitatively better and provide broader protection,” immunologist Fridtjof Lund-Johansen at Oslo University Hospital told the newspaper VG.

Lund-Johansen is researching the effect of vaccines on the various corona variants. During the research of the beta variant, it was found that a third dose significantly increased protection.

“They neutralize better. The immune response against variants that the vaccine is not really made against is also sharpened,” he added.

Therefore, he believes that it can be said with quite a high level of certainty that a booster dose can also help against omicron.
