Norwegian government decides to offer corona vaccines to 16- and 17-year-olds

Norwegian government decides to offer corona vaccines to 16- and 17-year-olds

The Norwegian government has decided that 16- and 17-year-olds will be offered the coronavirus vaccine.

Young people born in 2004 and 2005 will be offered the vaccine after the population over the age of 18 has been fully vaccinated, the government announced on Wednesday.

“Young people aged 16–17 have a low risk of becoming seriously ill from COVID-19, but with the summer’s development with increasing infection among young people and young adults, the number of young people at risk of becoming seriously ill may increase.

“The vaccine will protect the individual, give young people a more normal everyday life, and contribute to immunity in the population. Vaccination of this age group can also contribute to less infection pressure in society and thus less infection among younger children,” Minister of Health and Care Services Bent Høie (H) said on Wednesday.
