Norwegian cultural strike: Another 209 cultural employees will go on strike from Monday

The strike in Norway’s culture sector is escalating.

An additional 209 cultural employees will go on strike from Monday, October 25. This means that a total of 1100 cultural employees will be on strike.

“I register that the employers think we have to move. It’s pretty bold. If there’s one thing we’ve done, it’s that we’ve met the employer,” Lise Olsen, chief negotiator and deputy head of LO Stat, said in a press release.

Equal pension benefits

LO now expects employers to abide by the agreement from 2016 and redeem in terms of lifelong and equal pension benefits for women and men.

According to Olsen, the workers’ organization moved for miles when they joined the temporary pension scheme in 2016.

“Employers must meet us in the last hundred meters to put an end to this strike,” said Olsen.

An intermediate solution

Communications manager Ingvild Dahl Dørnes in Spekter says that they are willing to find an intermediate solution.

“But LO must also be interested in moving something in their position and meeting us for new conversations. We also have to note that LO does not want this,” she said.
