Marius Arnesen ist das gute Gewissen in Norwegens Alpin-Szene. Nachdem der Bruder vom ehemaligen Weltcup-Abfahrer Lasse Arnesen als Co-Trainer Lasse Kjus und Kjetil Aamodt betreute, hat er als Chef-Coach Aksel Svindal und Kjetil Jansrud an die Weltspitze geführt. Jetzt ist Norwegens Trainer des Jahres 2007 als Ski-Experte für den Pay-TV-Sender Viaplay tätig. Während der Abfahrt-Übertragung aus Lake Louise packte Arnesen bei der Fahrt von Marco Odermatt besonders viele Superlativen aus.

«Der Bursche fährt wirklich sensationell», wiederholt der 49-Jährige nach dem Rennen im Gespräch mit Blick. «Obwohl er in der Saisonvorbereitung nur vier Tage auf den Abfahrtszeiten-Ski trainierte, fährt er hier fast aufs Podest. Etwas Vergleichbares habe ich in der Vergangenheit einzig bei Lasse Kjus erlebt, der ein absolutes Genie auf Ski war.»

Obwohl Norwegens Aleksander Aamodt Kilde (Gesamtweltcupsieger 2019/20) nach seinem im letzten Januar erlittenen Kreuzbandriss wieder zurück ist (gestern Rang 9), tippt Arnesen im Kampf um die grosse Kugel gegen seinen Landsmann: «Wenn Odermatt gesund bleibt, sehe ich keinen, der ihn in diesem Winter im Gesamt-Weltcup wird schlagen können.»

Odermatt liegt schon deutlich vor dem Titelverteidiger

Genau so sieht man das auch in Österreich, obwohl beim Speed-Auftakt in Lake Louise mit Matthias Mayer und Vincent Kriechmayr zwei ÖSV-Athleten triumphiert haben. «Odermatt ist derzeit der einzige Athlet in diesem Zirkus, der in drei Disziplinen regelmässig in die Top-5 fahren kann», glaubt ORF-Experte Hans Knauss.

Tatsächlich liegt der Nidwaldner nach drei Rennen bereits 95 Punkte vor Titelverteidiger Alexis Pinturault, obwohl er im Gegensatz zum Franzosen auf den Parallel-Bewerb in Lech verzichtet hat. Ob «Odi» seinen Vorsprung am Sonntag weiter ausbauen kann, muss allerdings stark bezweifelt werden. Die Wetterprognosen sind derart mies, dass in Lake Louise kaum jemand daran glaubt, dass der Super-G ausgetragen werden kann.
