Norway's FHI expects a continued increase in infection

Norway’s FHI expects a continued increase in infection

Since the R-number is still between 1.1 and 1.2 in the country, the FHI believes that the infection will continue to rise.

“The steep increase in infection rates slowed last week, but the R-number is still between 1 and 1.2, so we can expect a continued increase in infection rates,” Frode Forland at the National Institute of Public Health (FHI) told the newspaper VG.

He notes that the number of new admissions to hospitals and intensive care units decreased somewhat last week.

Forland says we must be prepared for the fact that more elderly people will die of corona this winter season because there was a lower mortality rate than expected last winter.

“Elderly people who have a poor general condition and underlying diseases often die from complications from respiratory infections such as colds, flu, and corona. Fully vaccinated elderly people can also be infected with corona, and the disease can have a serious course,” he said.
