The measures that have been introduced in Eastern Norway and in Western Norway will probably have a limited effect on delaying the new omicron coronavirus variant, according to the National Institute of Public Health (FHI).
The measures are likely to have a limited effect because the omicron variant is probably more contagious, so vaccinated people will also become infected, the newspaper Aftenposten writes.
The measures have been introduced with two goals: to delay the spread of the omicron variant and to curb infection in the regions in general.
But even very intrusive measures would probably have a relatively limited effect on delaying the spread of the omicron variant, the FHI wrote.
“The experience related to the alpha and delta variant indicates that there will be a relatively limited delay with even very intrusive measures… but the effect will depend on the properties of the new variant,” the FHI’s recommendation notes.
