Norway plans to tighten rules for confiscating money and property generated through gang crime

Norway plans to tighten rules for confiscating money and property generated through gang crime

On Friday, the Norwegian government presented proposals aimed at providing clearer rules for the confiscation of proceeds from gang crime.

“Taking away the money, the expensive cars, and other status symbols that stem from crime from the criminal gangs is perhaps what hurts them the most.

“The current rules are not clear and distinct enough, and the government is now proposing rules that are easier to use in practice,” Minister of Justice and Emergency Management Monica Mæland (H) stated.

In 2019, the new Criminal Law Council was established – it was commissioned to examine gang crime in Norway.

The council has concluded that the current regulations are mainly adequate but that the rules are perceived as unclear on some points.
