No to violence: Stop speculating, linking attacks to Palace, says IGP

KUALA LUMPUR: Don’t make speculation that could jeopardise an investigation, including linking it to the Palace, says Tan Sri Razarudin Husain.

The Inspector-General of Police sent a stern warning in commenting on the recent attacks on three professional football players.

“The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) is still investigating the motive behind the attacks on Akhyar Rashid, Faisal Halim and Safiq Rahim.

“We also deny allegations by certain irresponsible parties on social media, as if the real motive has been ascertained but in truth, it is lies and baseless allegations.

“They also mentioned the so-called involvement of the Palace in this case… it should not happen as we have not even obtained the real motive (behind the attacks),” he told reporters after attending the closing ceremony of the Defence Services Asia (DSA) and National Security (NatSec) Asia 2024 here on Thursday (May 9).

The IGP said the CID was still working hard in investigating the attacks and CID director Comm Datuk Seri Mohd Shuhaily Mohd Zain himself went to the scene of the crime in Kota Damansara where Faisal was attacked.

“Now, irresponsible parties, including the Edisi Siasat (ES) Telegram channel seem to act like they have solved the case by making speculation and lies. We don’t even know where they received such information,” he added.

Razarudin said he hoped anyone with information on the cases would come forward and relay it to the police.

“If you have no credible information, you don’t have to be irresponsible by uploading social media posts that are untrue.

“Most of the information on social media is sensationalised issues and cases that are untrue. It is often proven when police called them up to assist an investigation and they refused to attend.

“In fact, even me, my wife and Deputy IGP Datuk Seri Ayob Khan Mydin Pitchay have been mentioned by ES,” he said.

Razarudin said so far, there have been two arrests made and there is no third individual arrested over the attack on Faisal.

“Our focus is to gather information, record statements of witnesses and find the motive behind the attacks,” he said.

“I also urge any football player who received threats or knows any useful information to contact the police as soon as possible,” he said.
