No relief for K Kavitha as court denies her bail in liquor policy case
Delhi’s Rouse Avenue Court on Monday dismissed the bail pleas filed by Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) leader K Kavitha in the liquor policy case being probed by both the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and the Enforcement Directorate (ED).
In her plea, the BRS leader said that the apprehension of tampering with any evidence and attempt to prejudice the trial in the present matter did not arise.
Kavitha’s plea had claimed that the CBI had solely relied upon the statements of the approvers or their relatives/associates/employees, which was a part of the larger conspiracy to malign her image and, more particularly, to prevent her from campaigning in the ongoing Lok Sabha elections.
The probe agencies, however, alleged that Kavitha was neck-deep in the conspiracy associated with the case.
ED’s counsel, Zoheb Hossain, called it a case where powerful people were coercing others to withdraw their statements. The statement was made in reference to Kavitha’s co-accused, Arun Pillai, alleging that Kavitha coerced him to retract his statement right when she was to be confronted with him.
Kavitha was arrested on March 15 and is presently in judicial custody in connection with the Delhi liquor policy case. The case is being probed by both the ED and the CBI.
Orders on her pleas seeking bail in both cases stand reserved.
