no heatwave in delhi till may 31, yellow alert for himachal pradesh; high temperatures in odisha | imd weather forecast
New Delhi: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) said that Uttarakhand, Punjab, Haryana and north Rajasthan are likely to experience thundersquall/gusty wind speed reaching 40-50 kmph on Friday.
Assam, Meghalaya, Mizoram and Tripura are projected to receive light rainfall/thunderstorm during the next days, the IMD stated.
In its latest bulletin, the India Meteorological Department predicted Light/moderate rainfall over West Bengal, Sikkim, Bihar and Jharkhand on May 27 and 28.
Heavy rainfall likely over Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim today, the weather department said.
The IMD predicted that there would be no significant change in maximum temperature in many parts of the country during the next five days. However, Odisha is expected to experience humid air and high temperatures today.
Giving update on Monsoon, the IMD said, conditions are favourable for the further advance of southwest monsoon into some more parts of south Bay of Bengal, Andaman Sea and Andaman & Nicobar Islands during the next two days.
Delhi Weather Update
Light rain and strong dust-raising winds on May 25 have kept the maximum temperature in check in Delhi. In a huge relief to the Delhiites, no heatwave is predicted until May 30 in the national capital.
The IMD stated that northwest India, including Delhi is expected to receive rainfall over the next 2-3 days under the influence of a western disturbance active over the western Himalayan region.
Meanwhile, rains also lashed parts of Punjab and Haryana on Thursday.
Himachal Pradesh: ‘Yellow’ warning issued
Himachal Pradesh, the tourist hotspot during the summer season, received moderate to heavy rainfall on May 25, triggering landslides and disrupting vehicular traffic and power supply.
The local Met office issued a “yellow” warning of thunderstorm and lightning at isolated places in Himachal Pradesh during May 26-28. The hill state is also projected to receive rains at many places in lower areas on Friday.
