No heatwave in Delhi for next 5 days; IMD predicts more rain, thunderstorms in Bihar, Himachal
After reeling under scorching heat, Delhiites heaved a sigh of relief as rains, along with thunderstorms and gusty winds, lashed parts of the national capital on Friday, keeping the temperature in check at 36.9 degrees Celsius. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has said similar conditions are expected to prevail in Delhi over the next two to three days and no heatwave is predicted until May 30.
According to the Regional Meteorological Centre, Delhi is likely to witness a partly cloudy sky with very light rain and thunderstorms in one or two places. The maximum and minimum temperatures are expected to hover at 36 degrees Celsius and 21 degrees Celsius, respectively.
Under the influence of a western disturbance active over the western Himalayan region, intermittent rains are predicted over northwest India, including the national capital and its surrounding areas, over the next two to three days, according to the IMD.
A heatwave scorched parts of Delhi on Monday and Tuesday, with many weather stations recording maximum temperatures above 45 degrees Celsius.
RAIN LASHES BIHAR
Rainfall lashed isolated places in Bihar during the last 48 hours, which brought temporary relief to people from the sweltering heat. Patna, Sheikhpura, Nawada, Jamui, Vamiki Nagar received showers in the state.
The weather office has issued a yellow alert for the state, indicating thunder showers accompanied by lightning and gusty winds of 30-40 kmph on Friday.
Rains are expected to continue till Friday in South Bihar, and till Sunday in North-East Bihar. The maximum temperature across most parts of the state is likely to stay between 34-38 degrees till May 27.
