‘No concerns’ about Red Bull Racing exodus – Horner

Horner has ‘no concerns’ over a Red Bull Racing exodus. This comes after F1 design guru Adrian Newey announced this weekend he’ll be stepping down from the energy drinks company. While Newey did not name his next destination – if any – the clear frontrunner according to the media is Ferrari.

But the Maranello marque’s CEO Benedetto Vigna told Formula Passion: “Newey is one of our clients, participating in Ferrari track events. But a lot of things are always said in the newspapers,” Vigna added.

Another rumour is that Red Bull Racing’s long-time sporting director Jonathan Wheatley could be the next to depart. McLaren boss Zak Brown claimed last weekend in the Miami press conference that “multiple CVs were flying around the paddock” after Newey’s bombshell.

“Zak is absolutely right. We are seeing resumes from Red Bull at all levels,” said Mercedes boss Toto Wolff. It’s even been said that Newey’s departure may have unsettled future corporate partner Ford Motor Company. Red Bull Racing’s works manufacturer partner, for 2026 and beyond, is creating its own engine program in anticipation of the new powertrain regulations.

COMMITTED TO RED BULL

However, Ford’s motorsport boss Mark Rushbrook calmed any nerves in Miami. “We believe Red Bull Racing is the best team to work with in F1, even with the things going on behind the scenes currently. We’re committed to helping them succeed,” reassured Rushbrook.

As for team boss Christian Horner, he insists he has “no concerns about the strength and depth” of Red Bull’s personnel setup. He also revealed with glee that Red Bull poached more than 200 staff from Mercedes for its own Red Bull Powertrains project. “I’d be a little more worried about 200 people than one or two CVs,” he concluded, adding that Wolff and Brown have been very talkative lately. – with GMM
