nottingham forest in 'precarious' position as relegation verdict given after newcastle united defeat

Nottingham Forest fell to defeat vs Newcastle United

Sky Sports pundit Izzy Christiansen admits being ‘quite worried’ about Nottingham Forest’s status in the Premier League after the 3-2 defeat to Newcastle United.

The hosts were left frustrated after missing the chance to distance themselves from the relegation zone. Forest found themselves a goal down thanks to Bruno Guimaraes after having an opportunity to take the lead through Morgan Gibbs-White.

Anthony Elanga equalised in the 26th minute after Gibbs-White’s through-ball. Another Newcastle set-piece showed the Reds’ frailty with Fabian Schar able to capitalise as a free-kick was not cleared.

But yet again, Forest were able to respond. This time through Callum Hudson-Odoi on the stroke of half-time as his effort went into the top corner with the help of a deflection.

After appeals for a penalty were waved away by Anthony Taylor and VAR, Newcastle immediately retook the lead through Guimaraes. Forest are yet to claim their first league win of 2024 and remain just two points from the relegation zone.

Christiansen has highlighted how Forest are in a ‘precarious’ position given teams in the drop zone picked up points this weekend. “Nuno mentioned there that they created chances and that’s number one,” she told Sky Sports.

“You’ve got to score goals and arguably in terms of chances created and goals scored tonight, not good enough. Forest didn’t hit target perhaps as they should have done. I do think there’s a little bit of a worry, not necessarily with what Nottingham Forest are capable of, but also defensively they’re quite leaky but then I think that Everton are strong, they’ve got structure and I back them to stay up.

“I think with Luton Town you go, hang on they’ve shown some form, that result today, they lost to Sheffield United but then Sheffield United might gain momentum from that today. I think Nottingham Forest are in a quite precarious position, I’m quite worried about them, to be honest.”
