Halimah Kyrgios claims that her tennis star brother Nick Kyrgios won’t change his ways, nor should he be expected to.
‘Life is too short. Sometimes he suffers a lot of anxiety from the pressure. It’s a really tough industry and you’re basically hotel hopping for a whole year. You have to be tough on the tennis tour,’ Halimah said in an interview with the Herald Sun.
The singer says her family’s main focus is on whether Nick, 26, ‘enjoys himself.’
‘I always ask his agent – how was his attitude today, was he positive, how was he playing? I think when it’s your brother, even a sibling, it feels like it’s you as well,’ she continued.
Hamilah is based in Hong Kong and works in dance and musical theatre, but she recently made headlines after taking a shot at Seven’s The Voice.
Hamilah left the judges completely speechless after giving a powerful rendition of Tina Arena’s single Chains.
She is now raring for a spot in the semi-finals and admits she was initially shocked by her quickly she progressed on the show.
‘That was really a shock to me to get through, the two other singers were just amazing in their own right so it came down to what (coach Rita Ora) was looking for on the day.’
She subsequently secured a spot in Rita Ora’s top five and Hamilah says the sessions with the UK songstress have been ‘fun’ and claims she helps ‘strip’ her singing back to where it’s ‘really raw.’
Hamilah’s huge moment at the blind audition was watched on by her brother via Zoom from Canberra.
After Voice host Sonia Kruger said that Hamilah was ‘amazing,’ Nick responded, proudly, ‘She always is.’
