No need for Perlis MB to resign over probe on son, say PN leaders

Perlis menteri besar Shukri Ramli has said that he will leave it to MACC to conduct its investigation.

PETALING JAYA: PAS and Bersatu leaders have agreed that there is no need for Perlis menteri besar Shukri Ramli to step down following a probe by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) on his son.

Utusan Malaysia reported that MACC is investigating Shukri’s son and four others over the alleged falsification of documents related to claims for infrastructure projects worth RM600,000.

The five, who were detained last Wednesday, were released on bail by MACC two days later.

Speaking to FMT, Wanita PAS chief Nuridah Salleh said the case did not cast PAS and Perikatan Nasional (PN) in a negative light.

“(The case) is still being investigated (and) there have been no calls for the menteri besar to resign,” she said.

Meanwhile, Perlis infrastructure and public transport committee chairman Izizam Ibrahim said the state government’s administration had not been affected by the case and was functioning as usual.

The Perlis Bersatu deputy chief said the state PN chapter was also “calm” as the coalition was not linked to the investigation.

The Titi Tinggi assemblyman said the incident had taught PN assemblymen in Perlis, most of whom were new to government administration, about the need to learn about “laws… (and) power struggles”.

“But regarding the menteri besar… we remain calm and are letting the investigation proceed,” the Padang Besar Bersatu division chief added.

Pauh assemblyman and Arau Bersatu division chief Megat Hashirat Hassan said the state Bersatu chapter would leave it to PN’s leadership to determine Shukri’s fate if the results of MACC’s probe did not favour his son.
