ESPN college football analyst Kirk Herbstreit has a bold head coaching suggestion for the USC Trojans job.
The longtime ESPN college football analyst believes that a current NFL head coach should be the No. 1 candidate for the Trojans job.
USC fired head coach Clay Helton earlier this month. Herbstreit believes that the Trojans should go after Carolina Panthers head coach Matt Rhule.

Rhule is an incredible coach, but it’s tough to see him leaving the NFL for the USC job.
“Rhule has a lot of security w/ 6 years basically left on his contract. Why take that job when you can get fired after 1 year?” one fan tweeted.
“I thought the goal for any coach was to land a HC position with one of 32 teams. Doesn’t seem reasonable to me to even think of the possibility of going backwards,” another fan added.
“Matt Rhule signed a seven-year, $60M contract with the Panthers and got a shot in the NFL, where head coaching positions are coveted and like gold dust. He wouldn’t even entertain USC,” another fan said.
Rhule, 46, is in his second season leading the Carolina Panthers’ franchise. While the USC job is an elite one in the college football world, it’s tough to see Rhule leaving for it.Internet Explorer Channel Network
