New York Jets draft FSU quarterback Jordan Travis

Jordan Travis went from being booed inside Doak Campbell Stadium to becoming one of the most decorated quarterbacks in Florida State Seminoles football history.

Now, the next step of his long journey officially begins, with the New York Jets selecting the quarterback with the No. 171 pick in the fifth round on Saturday.

Travis transferred to Florida State from Louisville and while his arrival as an all-time FSU quarterback took a few years, what was to come was instantly on display — against Boston College, Travis’ first-ever play was 26-yard touchdown run on 3rd-and-3, adding a 66-yard run in fourth quarter to clinch the win.

2020 and 2021, the first two years of the Mike Norvell era, saw him split snaps with other quarterbacks, either due to injury or competition — though his play still showcased a consistent ability to create explosive moments through land and air. The team fully became his in 2022 and, accordingly, Florida State enjoyed its first 10-win season in almost a decade while Travis put together one of the most impressive seasons in school history: 226-of-353 passing for 3,214 yards with 24 touchdowns and only five interception, along with 417 yards and seven touchdowns on 82 rushing attempts and a two-yard touchdown pass.

His 32 touchdowns in 2022 is tied for FSU’s 3rd-highest single-season total, and he’s the only player in FSU history with at least 20 touchdown passes and seven rushing touchdowns in a season.

2023 saw him enter the year as a Heisman contender, a status he held throughout the entire season. Before a devasting injury with two games left in the regular season, Travis was 207-for-324 passing for 2,756 yards with 20 touchdowns and only two interceptions, adding 176 yards and seven touchdowns rushing. He was named the ACC Player of the Year, the ACC Offensive Player of the Year and finished fifth in Heisman Trophy voting.

While the injury cut short a magical season, the quarterback has put in the work to recover and rehab — and if anybody is capable of overcoming adversity at the start of their career, it’s Travis.
