New Year's Eve parties in London 2021: The best club nights and events in the capital

Good times: The Standard hotel will host Benji B for its NYE celebration (Handout)

If your 2021 feels like it’s lasted approximately 21 years, then there’s only one way to shake off the malaise: have a great big party to say farewell, so long and good riddance to the last 365 days.

Last year’s New Year’s Eve was limited to living rooms and Hootenannies, but this time round London’s offering is set to be a whole lot wider. From club nights in crypts to swanky soirées in skyscrapers, there are plenty of places to usher in the new year with style. A word of warning, though: these nights are likely to sell out way in advance of December 31, so book your tickets early to avoid disappointment.

Prohibition Party

2022? Forget it. Party like it’s 1929 at this immersive event, which will resurrect the boozy rebellion of the prohibition years over in the States with a night of cocktails and dancing. Fancy dress is a must for this one — think tuxedos, pearls, feathers and the like — and for anyone who needs to brush up on their Charleston steps, pre-party dance instructors are on hand.

From £55, Village Underground, EC2A,

O2 Academy Brixton

Without question one of the most impressive clubbing line-ups for NYE can be found down in Brixton. Celebrating all things house and disco, there will be sets from The Blessed Madonna, Hunee, Jayda G, TSHA and more — it’s bound to a big one.

From £35, SW9,

Decimo at The Standard

Radio 1 favourite Benji B takes the reins at this night, bringing his eclectic taste in party-starting tunes to The Standard hotel’s 10th floor restaurant, with some secret special guests also set to appear. A major benefit here is the location — there’s no need to shuffle home on the night bus when you’re already in a hotel, with ticket bundles including a room and a hangover-busting breakfast the following morning also available.

From £65, WC1H,

The Cause

The Cause in Tottenham Hale has been one of the capital’s best clubs for the last few years, but it was always designed to be a temporary affair — and now the party is finally coming to an end, with the last shindig planned for New Year’s Eve. Spread out across the day and night, the line-up is being kept secret, but knowing the Cause, you can count on a top-notch selection.

From £10, N17,

The Spread Eagle

(Beth Crockatt)

One for the plant-based party animals, this night will be hosted at Homerton boozer The Spread Eagle, London’s fully vegan pub. An eight-course Chinese banquet will be the centrepiece of the night, with dishes ranging from vegan dan-dan noodles to crispy five-spice aubergine. From 10pm the tables will be cleared away with a night of dancing to disco, soul and funk.

£40, E9,

Oblix at the Shard

Here’s a party with a view — specifically, a vista of east London from a vantage point 32 floors above the ground in London’s tallest building. This is one of the pricier parties out there, but the ticket includes unlimited wine, beer, spirits and soft drinks from 9pm until midnight, with a free glass of champagne once the clock strikes midnight, and plenty of canapes. After the big countdown, a DJ will keep the good vibes going until 3am.

£200, SE1,

Somerset House

(Luke Dyson)

Somerset House is turning itself into a multi-venue party destination for NYE, with something to suit most tastes. Out on the Courtyard, a night of ice-skating will be soundtracked by pop bangers, while the East Wing will host an indie disco. In the West Wing, DJs will cover Afrobeat, house and hip-hop, and down in the rarely explored crypt beneath the building, it’ll be a night of karaoke.

From £55, WC2R,

It makes sense that one of London’s biggest clubs is also throwing one of its biggest parties. The NYE throwdown will welcome the likes of Adriatique, Fideles, Patrice Bäumel and Archie Hamilton across two rooms, with the party rumbling on until 7am. And if you want more, head along to the venue’s New Year’s Day shindig, with Call Super, Midland, Craig Richards and others.

From £20, EC1M,

The Savoy

(The Savoy)

If glamour and glitz are high up on your list of NYE priorities, then you could do far worse than this party at the Savoy. Naturally, it’s far from a budget-friendly evening, but tickets do include a champagne reception with a view of the Thames, and a five-course dinner in the Lancaster Ballroom with paired wines. Live music and entertainment will see guests into 2022.

£850, WC2R,

Ballie Ballerson

Ball pits and booze — it’s a good combination at any time of the year, but especially if you want to unleash your inner child for NYE. With a happy hour to get things well-oiled from 9.30pm to 10.30pm, glitter artists on hand for some bedazzlement and DJs seeing the tunes — as well as the chance to dive into the ball pit — it’s bound to be a blast.

From £45, EC2A,

The Clapham Grand

Vengaboys (Getty Images)

Even if you’re not going to Ibiza for NYE, you can certainly sing like you are — because this night down in Clapham will be headlined by none other than the Vengaboys. The Eurodance heroes will perform live, with drag queens, confetti cannons, DJ sets and more. It looks like it’ll be one of the more rumbustious nights in the capital.

From £34, SW11,

Studio 338

Italian techno heavyweight Marco Carola will be in charge of the festivities at this Greenwich club night, with the venue promising a “huge” line-up of other DJs due to be unveiled closer to the time. Studio 338 is always one of the popular NYE destinations, and this one is close to selling out already.

Promising an 11-hour marathon of electronic music is Wapping venue E1. See in the new year with a line-up that promises a fair few twists and turns — Objekt, Octo Octa, Club Fitness, Debonair and DjRUM are among the varied bill, with more acts due to be added in the run-up to the night.

From £20, E1W,

Trafalgar Square

London’s traditional NYE fireworks aren’t taking place in 2021 — the uncertainty of the pandemic made it an impossibility to plan — but the Mayor of London will instead host this ticketed celebration in Trafalgar Square, ith live music, food stalls and a big screen showing a highlight reel of the year. Tickets will be handed out via a ballot; sign up here for more information.
