New Pacific Airways Adds 2 New Boeing 757 Routes From California

• New Pacific has added Ontario to Nashville and Reno
• Ontario-Nashville is a sizable unserved market that has not had non-stop flights since Southwest ended it in 2010
• New Pacific is the fifth airline on Ontario-Reno in 30+ years, last served by aha! in 2022

New Pacific, forced to rebrand from Northern Pacific, has added two new Boeing 757 routes from Ontario. As with its first revenue-generating service in July, they are far from the carrier’s original plan to link the US with the Far East via Anchorage. It remains unclear what exactly is happening with this. Previously, the airline disclosed in an investor document that it anticipated a ludicrous 50 aircraft within four years. It is all very odd.

Ontario to Nashville

Covering 1,751 miles (2,817 km) is Ontario to Nashville. Analyzing US DOT T-100 data shows that it has not had non-stop flights since Southwest ended them in 2010, having started in 2000.

Still, it is a sizable market. In July 2023, booking data shows an estimated 6,400 flew between the pair (103 passengers daily each way), excluding those leaked overland to Los Angeles or elsewhere. Music City was Ontario’s largest unserved domestic market.

Beginning on November 17th, the new route will operate on Fridays and Mondays, obviously designed for long weekends. It is scheduled as follows, with all times local:

• Ontario-Nashville: 7H701, 10:00-15:30 (3h 50m block)
• Nashville-Ontario: 7H702, 17:10-19:30 (4h 20m)

Ontario to Reno

Beginning the day before, on November 16th, will be New Pacific from Ontario to Reno. It is 394 miles (634 km) as the crow flies, rising to 462 (744 km) if driving, which might take around eight hours. It is scheduled as follows:

• Ontario to Reno: Thu, 7H711, 08:30-10:00 (1h 30m); Sun, 7H711, 18:25-19:55 (1h 30m)
• Reno to Ontario: Thu, 7H712, 11:15-12:45 (1h 30m); Sun, 7H775, 21:10-22:40 (1h 30m)

Fifth carrier to Reno in 30+ years

Non-stop flights were last offered in defunct aha!, which stood for ‘air, hotel, adventure,’ in 2022. Unlike New Pacific’s 757s, aha! deployed Embraer ERJ-145s operated by ExpressJet. T-100 data shows that it carried a total of 5,547 roundtrip passengers. As it had 10,850 for sale, it achieved a very poor seat load factor of just 51%. Ouch.

Before that, T-100 shows that Southwest served it very briefly in 2004, 2008, and 2013. ExpressJet ran between 2007 and 2008 using the ERJ-145 (during its own branded, point-to-point, independent stage). It carried four times as many passengers as aha!, but still achieved a poor SLF of 62%. Reno Air (remember them?) operated to/from Ontario from 1992 to 1999, the year it was acquired by American Airlines.

Adds to Ontario-Las Vegas

The first commercial flight by New Pacific (then Northern Pacific) was from Ontario to Las Vegas on July 14th, 2023. Covering just 197 miles (317 km), it remains the world’s shortest 757 scheduled flight.

While it continues to operate weekly until November 14th, it will temporarily increase to three weekly (Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Sundays) from November 15th. From November 26th through to Christmastime, it will run on Thursdays and Sundays, continuing the ever-changing schedule.
