New nightclub promises Dubs ‘the experience we enjoyed in nineties and noughties’
A new nightclub is promising to give young adults “the Dublin nightlife experience we enjoyed in the nineties and noughties”.
SoHo Dublin is set to open next week on D’Olier Street, bucking the trend of the last few years which has seen a raft of nightclub closures.
The multi-purpose venue will host club-nights with top Irish DJs, live music performances and theatrical events, corporate nights, and fashion shows.
The Saturday Club night will feature Irish DJs like Dave Treacy and Dansie.
“The Irish youth today have never experienced the high quality and high service of the Dublin nightlife experience we enjoyed in the nineties and noughties,” owner Jerry Harrington told the Irish Independent.
“Due to the staggering number of closures since then, so many of them have rarely experienced a good club night generally. In a modern, stylish venue we are going to reintroduce that same standard older Dubliners once enjoyed.
“We’re blessed, it’s such an ideal location. There are buses, trams, taxis, and those staying in hotels nearby. To explain to someone where you are, you’re just three minutes from O’Connell Bridge.
“We’re over-23s. We cater for those who want to have a great night in a nice environment where there’s plenty of space.
“It’s all about people, our customers are precious. We want people to want to come back,” he added.
“You can escape the dance floor and go to the green room. One of our rooms will do 80s and 90s music, the main room will do commercial dance and the big hits, the lounge and green room will play cool sounds.
“People want to hear 80s, 90s and 00s music. There are three distinct rooms that offer different music, so you could be in three clubs in the one night.
“We will ensure that your night out won’t break the bank, but you won’t sacrifice any of the luxuries that you like.”
Give Us the Night, a group of industry professionals leading the campaign for positive changes for nightlife in Ireland, said the opening of the new nightclub is “positive news” for the city.
“The nightclub industry here is now so small that it only accounts for 0.6pc of the total licensed liquor trade in Ireland,” they said.
“Seven counties in Ireland are now down to their very last nightclub. The Government’s promised reform still hasn’t happened, which is halting a rebirth of this once thriving industry.
“Dublin, with its rich nightlife history, needs fresh venue options to keep the city buzzing and alive.
“SoHo Dublin opening in the city centre is very positive industry news in a time when we often hear far more about closures.”
