Kansas City Chiefs set to open talks on record-breaking contract extension following latest Super Bowl victory
Super Bowl-winning head coach Andy Reid is reportedly set to begin negotiations with the Kansas City Chiefs over what is likely to be a record-setting new contract at Arrowhead Stadium.
Reid masterminded his third Super Bowl title with the Chiefs last month, seeing his side defeat the San Francisco 49ers 25-22 in overtime as Kansas City made it back-to-back Championships and three in five seasons.
In the aftermath of this latest victory, 65-year-old Reid confirmed that he has no plans to hang up his headset yet and according to NFL Network, is set to begin talks over a new deal ‘in the coming weeks’
Reid signed a six-year extension with the Chiefs after their Super Bowl LIV win in 2020, but after claiming two more rings, he can expect to sign one of the most lucrative head coaching contracts the game has ever seen.
Coaching deals are generally not in the public domain like player contracts are, but Reid is believed to be earning less than the $15million that the game’s best-paid coaches are currently on.
The Chiefs have already moved to sign defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo to a new three-year deal following his key role in their latest Super Bowl triumph, while general manager Brett Veach should also be in line for a new deal alongside Reid.
