Both the Alabama Crimson Tide and the Michigan State Spartans are entering the 2024 college football season with new head coaches from the former Pac 12. Former Washington Huskies head coach Kalen DeBoer replaced legendary head coach Nick Saban in Tuscaloosa, AL while former Oregon State Beavers head coach Jonathan Smith takes over for Mel Tucker in East Lansing, MI.
The two went head to head for two-year starting cornerback transfer from Arizona State Ed Woods. Woods picked the Spartans over the Crimson Tide telling On3, “I like Michigan State because of the relationships I have with most of these coaches,” Woods said. “I feel like I’m at home. They understand where I come from, and Coach Demetrice Martin is one of the best in the nation.”
Woods was not a highly touted recruit listed as the No. 88 cornerback, No. 87 player in California, and No. 965 overall recruit in the 2020 cycle according to On3’s Industry Rankings.
The former three-star totaled 66 tackles and forced three fumbles with the Sun Devils. He’ll transfer to the Spartans with one more year of eligibility.
