Glasgow owners given completion date for old Victoria Infirmary flats after over a year delay

The first phase of a massive development in Glasgow’s southside is set to be complete more than two years after buyers purchased flats.

The site of the old Victoria Infirmary grounds is due to be turned into 400 flats, including social housing, mid-market and shared equity properties. It has now been confirmed 135 of those apartments will be completed by March 15.

After inititially being told that homeowners would receive their keys in March 2023, by developers Sanctuary Scotland and Cruden, the date was pushed back to December, however, excited buyers were still unable to set foot in the flats come the end of the year.

Cruden Building were awarded a £30m contract to construct 135 flats as part of phase one of the development in 2019. The second phase of the project consists of another 209 properties with the housing developers being awarded a £43.3 million contract in 2021 to complete it.

A joint statement from Sanctuary Scotland and Cruden read: “We remain very proud to be undertaking development of this iconic site and have today (9 February) written to customers awaiting completion of the first phase of The Victoria Infirmary development to tell them we anticipate being able to hand over their homes on Friday, March 15.

“We are also inviting them all to visit the site in the next couple of weeks to have a look around the development, so they can see with their own eyes the high-quality homes they will be taking ownership of.

“While we understand and acknowledge the frustration the delays to the original completion date have caused, it is pleasing to have reached the stage where we can start handing over homes and we are confident the finished properties will demonstrate our commitment to the highest standards across this whole development.”
