The Germans produced 642 million liters of ice cream last year. It had an average price of €1.3 per liter and was therefore also the cheapest in the EU. France has overtaken Italy and is the second largest producer with 516 million liters.
French ice cream is on average the most expensive at €2.2 per liter. Italy was still the largest producer of ice cream in the EU in 2016, but was surpassed by Germany a year later.
In total, 2.9 billion liters of ice cream were made in the EU, 9% less than in 2019. More than 230 million kilos of this was exported to countries outside the EU. That iceberg was worth more than $750 million.
The French exported the most ice with 59 million kilos. The Netherlands is the second exporter with 38 million liters and Germany is third with 29 million.
