Pennsylvania State Police to offer seven week course for Tioga County residents
MANSFIELD, Pa. (WETM) – The Pennsylvania State Police will be conducting a seven-week course for Tioga County residents who are interested in becoming a police officer.
The sessions will be held on Wednesday evenings beginning on March 6 and will continue until April 17. They will take place from 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Mansfield Fire Department and are free of charge. You must attend at least six of the seven sessions to graduate from the course.

Participants of the session will be exposed to the types of training that police officers receive, as well as general law enforcement concepts and responsibilities. This includes discussing the areas of improvement when it comes to the understanding and communication between law enforcement and citizens.
In addition, participants will receive hands-on instruction regarding multiple police procedures and techniques. This includes learning about specific topics such as DUI enforcement, use of force, crash and crime scene investigations, traffic stops and more.

There will also be a variety of presentations led by different speakers from local police departments and specialized positions within the Pennsylvania State Police.
To participate in the course, you must be a Tioga County resident who is 18 years old or older and have no criminal history.
You must submit an application and be accepted into the class. The class size is limited to 25 participants and will be determined on a first-come, first-serve basis. Upon receipt of your application, PSP will conduct a brief criminal background investigation.

Applications are available at the PSP barracks in Mansfield or by calling 570-560-1361 and requesting to have one sent to you. All applications must be postmarked no later than Friday, March 1.
