Emiratos Árabes.- La NASA ha publicado imágenes satelitales que capturan extensas inundaciones en los Emiratos Árabes Unidos, resultado de tormentas excepcionalmente intensas que descargaron más de un año de lluvia en algunas áreas en menos de 24 horas.

Las fotografías tomadas por el satélite Landsat 9 el 19 de abril, muestran severas inundaciones en la zona industrial de Jebel Ali y áreas residenciales como Khalifa City y Zayed City en Abu Dhabi. 

Este evento meteorológico, descrito por la agencia espacial estadounidense como causado por un sistema de “tormentas de movimiento lento”, ha desbordado infraestructuras y perturbado significativamente la vida cotidiana en la región.

   

Dawoud Al Hajri, director general del organismo cívico, informó al Khaleej Times que en Dubai, las lluvias alcanzaron un pico de más de 220 mm en un solo día esta semana, una cantidad que supera con creces la precipitación anual típica de la región.

Las imágenes de Landsat 9, que emplea color falso para resaltar la presencia de agua (mostrada en azul), fueron tomadas durante las primeras sobre-vuelas post tormenta, revelando la magnitud del impacto en infraestructura clave como Sheikh Zayed Road, una de las principales arterias de tráfico entre Dubai y Abu Dhabi.

Los esfuerzos de recuperación comenzaron de inmediato, con iniciativas del gobierno, el público y el sector privado, muchos de los cuales adoptaron políticas de trabajo desde casa para facilitar la respuesta a la emergencia.
