Bondi Partners Senior Advisor Peter McGauran says a majority of Australians “love their country” and “value everything it gives them” after anti-Australia Day marches occurred yesterday.
Majority of Australians ‘love their country’ and ‘value everything it gives them’
Tens of thousands gathered to march through Australia’s capital cities yesterday – calling for a change of Australia Day’s date.
Some protesters waved Palestinian flags and beat drums, while in Canberra, the protests sent Parliament House into lockdown.
“Australia Day went relatively well, I would have thought, because most Australians got about the celebration if they wanted to,” Mr McGauran told Sky News Australia.
“There were large crowds in all the cities, and the Invasion Day advocates linked it to the Palestinian cause.
“There was … a regurgitation of existing positions.
“The majority of Australians love their country, value everything it gives them, and will celebrate Australia Day quietly and unobtrusively.”
