The Lithuanian Foreign Minister, Gabrielius Landsbergis, has issued a stark warning about a potential sudden attack by Russia on NATO countries, according to Tagesschau.

“We have a very aggressive neighbor with the intention of testing NATO. We have to prepare for that. We cannot wait for a second, our Pearl Harbor moment. We cannot wait for every European country to actually be attacked by Russia – in the south, in the north, in the east and in the west,” said Landsbergis.

The Minister reminded that over 2,000 people died as a result of the sudden attack by the Japanese on the US naval base at Pearl Harbor in Hawaii on December 7, 1941.

Landsbergis firmly called for further military aid from the West to Ukraine, which has been attacked by Russia, specifically advocating for the supply of long-range Taurus cruise missiles.

“Ukraine needs the Taurus for strategic reasons to gain the upper hand against Russia. Yes, Germany has incredible equipment that it could supply to Ukraine,” the Minister said.

NATO prepares for potential escalations

Earlier, the German Bild reported that NATO intends to conduct large-scale exercises in February involving around 90,000 servicemen. The scenario of the exercises is a Russian attack on NATO territory.

At the same time, the head of the NATO Military Committee, Admiral Rob Bauer, stated that the alliance needs transformation, and the West must prepare for an era where anything can happen at any time, including the outbreak of war.

On January 16, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy warned that Western wavering in support of Kyiv and fears of escalation of war with Russia could prolong hostilities for years.
