What Bafana coach Broos told Jordaan about leaving

Is Hugo Broos about to say goodbye to Bafana Bafana? The latest updates suggest the end might be close.

HUGO BROOS TAKES BAFANA BAFANA TO THE AFCON 2023 SEMI-FINALS

As reported in early February. South Africa surprisingly beat the likes of Morocco, drew with Tunisia and beat DR Congo to win bronze at Afcon 2023.

The results later earned the Bafana coach due interest and attention. Reports say Broos is targeted by North African nations.

The former Cameroon coach is also hotly linked with Belgian giants Club Brugge as Technical Director.

INTENTIONS TO LEAVE

Speaking to the media before leading Bafana to Afcon 2023, the 71-year-old made a big admission.

Broos said he was considering to retire after Bafana or work closer to home. The lack of support from the Premier Soccer League and Safa also left a bitter taste in his mouth.

Broos has also told Belgian media that he informed the Safa president that he is eager to leave Bafana.

“I had a conversation with the president – on Saturday, we played the match for third place and on Sunday we were in the hotel and I made an appointment with the president and said ‘look, I’d like to stop’,” Broos said on the Frank & Franky podcast, as quoted by iDiskiTimes Editor David Kappel.

“I think he was lucky that he was sitting down, otherwise he would’ve fallen over.

“I said, ‘I don’t want to experience the criticism I received here over the last two years again’. Now, everything is good. But in March we have a group of friendlies and if we disappoint, it starts all over again.

“And also, I’m alone in South Africa. My family is here [in Belgium]. I’m not going to do that anymore, two-and-a-half months I was not there. But it’s a lot, especially when you have grandchildren then it’s worse,” the Bafana boss added.

Who should replace Broos as the next Bafana coach? Let us know in the comments section below.
