Apprentice jockey Chelsey Reynolds has been rushed to hospital with serious injuries after falling from her horse in training.

Reynolds is understood to have suffered serious head injuries as a result of the fall.

Emergency services were called to a private property at Finniss, south of Adelaide, and Reynolds was then airlifted to Flinders Medical Centre.

In a statement released on social media, Racing South Adelaide said: “Racing SA can confirm an incident at trackwork this morning on the Fleurieu Peninsula involving apprentice jockey Chelsey Reynolds. Chelsey is being treated at the Flinders Medical Centre.

“We are providing support to Chelsey’s family and will provide an update on her condition as soon as we are able.”

The Australian Jockey’s Association took to X to send their best wishes to Reynolds as well: “Our thoughts and prayers are with SA apprentice Chelsey Reynolds after her accident this morning.”

Reynolds, who only raced last Friday, has seven winners from 52 starts in the saddle.

“I’ve had my little first pony since I was eight and then did normal trail riding and stuff, and then my other job closed down and that’s when I found Finniss to fill in the spot but I wasn’t meant to stay there. And Glen found out I could ride and it escalated from there,” Reynolds told Racing SA in August last year.

“I’ve always been good with animals I think, horses and any others I feel like I always get a good feel for them.”

Last month, fellow apprentice jockey Kelsey Hannah was airlifted to hospital after a horror fall at Strathalbyn Racecourse in the south-east of Adelaide. Kelsey was placed in an induced coma after losing consciousness after the incident.

She suffered a fracture in her neck vertebrae and is still recovering.
