Mumbai: Youth lured in Gigolo job trap, duped of Rs 1.5 lakhs

Mumbai Police arrested a 30-year-old man from Delhi who duped a youngster of Rs 1.53 lakhs by luring him with Gigolo’s job offer. Police are also looking out for the women involved in the crime, who spoke to the victim posing as clients.

The complainant, son of a police official, had seen an advertisement on a website which offered a job as a ‘Call Boy’ and there was a number mentioned with the ad. When the contacted the number, the receiver told him that he will have to entertain the company’s clients and would get paid per assignment. The company would keep 20 percent of the amount while the remaining eighty percent would be paid to him, he claimed. Later on, the complainant was given an identity card on WhatsApp and the number of a female client.

Youth lured in job trap

“The complainant then called the female client who told the victim that she would make arrangements for a taxi, book a hotel room and other stuff needed for the meeting. The woman asked the complainant to deposit Rs 32, 000 and assured that the money would be returned along with the fees when they meet.” said a police official from Matunga police station.

He added, “The complainant deposited the money but after that the woman stopped answering her phone. The complainant then contacted the person who had provided the number and he said that the meeting has been cancelled and provided another client’s number. He was again asked to deposit money, which would be returned along with the fees when they meet.”

Woman poses as client

When the complainant contacted the client, she asked him to deposit Rs 1.21 lakh to an account and also assured him that she would return the money with the fees during the meeting. The complainant then borrowed the said amount from his father and deposited the money, but since then, the woman and the man stopped answering their phones. Realising that he had been duped ,the complainant filed a complaint at Matunga police station on December 22.

The Matunga police went through the bank account records and sim card details and recently arrested one Rohit Kumar Gowardhan from New Delhi. Gowardhan was produced in court on Saturday and has been remanded to police custody till January 20.

The woman who had spoken to the complainant is a married woman and is said to be an ex-colleague of Gowardhan and allegedly received the call and spoke to him for a small amount of money. Police are trying to get more details about the woman from Gowardhan.

Police have registered a case against a man and two women against the relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and the Information Technology Act (IT).
