Multiple NAV employees want to quit their jobs after the stabbing attack in Bergen

Multiple NAV employees want to quit their jobs after the stabbing attack in Bergen

Multiple employees are afraid to start working again, and some have said they want to quit their jobs after the attack on two NAV employees at Årstad in Bergen.

“Multiple people have expressed a desire to quit as a result of the incident,” Anne Kverneland Bogsnes, director of NAV Vestland, told the newspaper Bergens Tidende.

Bogsnes says many employees are afraid to start working again after the attack.

“Many of them have been exposed to threatening situations at work,” she added.

“They’re thinking about safety, and about what happened… it makes them anxious to start work again.”

Stabbing attack

On Monday, a female NAV employee in her 50s was killed, while a woman in her 30s suffered lighter injuries in a knife attack. A man in his 30s has been remanded in custody, charged with murder and inflicting grievous bodily harm.

NAV Årstad is closed for the rest of the week, but the other four offices in Bergen opened on Thursday. The number of security guards present at the location has now been doubled, and there will always be two employees in the room in meetings with NAV users.
