'Mufasa: The Lion King:' Disney Reveals First Prequel Trailer | THR News Video
Disney has finally released the first trailer for Mufasa, The Lion King. The film, directed by Barry Jenkins, serves as both an origin story and follow up to Jon Favreau’s 2019 movie The Lion King, which was based on the 1994 Disney animated classic of the same name. The new film will tell the back story of Simba’s father, Mufasa, an orphan who grew up to be a wise, powerful and compassionate ruler. The Earth will shake. Aaron Pierre voices the title character, which was voiced by James Earl Jones in both of the previous films. Meanwhile, Calvin Harrison Junior voices his evil brother Scar, voiced by Chiwetel Ejiofor in the 2019 film, and Jeremy Irons in the 1994 animated classic Elsewhere. Billy Eichner and Seth Rogen will return as Timon and Pumbaa respectively, reprising their fan favorite roles from the 2019 film, as well as Beyoncé returning alongside daughter Blue Ivy, who’s joining the voice cast. The 2019 film grossed a total of $1.7 billion at the global box office to become the top grossing Disney branded film of all time. While at Cinema Con, Jenkins mentioned that this film will feature a lineup of all new songs. They’re handcuffing me, so I can’t tell you who made those songs, but I promise you the songs are absolutely amazing. Mufasa The Lion King is set to hit theaters December 20th.
