A man in his 30s is in custody after being arrested by gardaí during an attempted armed robbery at a Dublin filling station.
The alarm was raised after a man armed with a “large-bladed” knife entered a Circle K on the Kennelsfort Road in west Dublin, and threatened staff on Saturday evening, March 2, 2024 at approximately 5.30pm.
It’s understood gardaí had to use pepper spray to subdue the man before climbing over a counter to arrest him.
Footage of the incident shows a hooded man behind a counter in the premises while an observer can be heard saying “that’s a knife”. A garda approaches the counter and the man behind covers his face after having been apparently sprayed.
Two gardaí clamber over the counter, one of whom hits the man several times with a baton before pinning him on the ground. The second garda takes out handcuffs and the man is restrained as a third officer climbs over the cash desk to assist with the arrest.
A garda spokesperson told sundayworld.com: “A knife, a sum of cash and a number of stolen items were recovered.
“The male is currently detained at a garda station in South Dublin under provisions of Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984.
“Investigations are ongoing.”
