Meghalaya CM to verify reports of anti-Missionary school campaign in Assam
Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma said on Tuesday that his government would verify the reports of an anti-missionary school campaign in neighboring Assam and then will raise the concern with the appropriate authority.
Sangma assured that his government would verify the information before engaging in discussions with authorities in Dispur. Sangma also promised to prioritise the safety and security of residents along the inter-state border.
Responding to a zero-hour notice raised by UDP legislator Mayralborn Syiem in the Assembly, Sangma reiterated the state government’s commitment to the well-being of citizens amid reports of a radical Hindu group’s campaign against missionary schools.
He outlined plans to collaborate with Superintendents of Police (SPs) and the Meghalaya Director General of Police (DGP) to bolster patrolling efforts and restore confidence among the population.
Highlighting the importance of verifying facts before responding, Sangma stated, “It would be incorrect for me to respond without verifying the fact.” He also emphasised the need for open communication channels with Assam’s Chief Minister, Himanta Biswa Sarma, and regular dialogue between the chief secretaries of both states.
Sangma assured that the Meghalaya government remained proactive in addressing potential threats and was committed to remaining vigilant in safeguarding the interests and security of the people.
