MP moved to tears by constituent's plea for assisted dying
Another gentleman went on and in a very kind of a very thoughtful and long correspondence where he talks passionately about his mother, working class Liverpool woman went on to become the curator at the Historic Royal Palaces. I like the fact that he said you would have absolutely loved her, Siobhan. But he said that the weeks through her illness was actually rather life affirming. His mum considered taking her own life as her best friend had actually done through a terminal diagnosis. But she didn’t and she told us that she was glad that she hadn’t because she would have missed out on the experience of so much love and goodwill from family and carers. Yet she also went on to plead for death in the final weeks. It took 16 weeks for her to die effectively from starvation. And I mentioned this gentleman because he said that when my mum was dying. And it this is hard, isn’t it? We all get these. I promised myself that I at the very least would write a letter, and I’d write this letter to my MP. That so that the bitter disagreement with the law and my experience would be on record. Unknown. And thank you for taking the time for it. We’ve had these emails. I agree with the right honourable member for Holton and Hazel. Sorry, I’m gonna get his constituent wrong, but we have to have days on this. This is not a quick this has to be very thought through and a big debate with everybody involved. So thank you.
