A mother has revealed why she has stopped throwing any more kids’ birthday parties, branding them ‘ridiculous’, ‘expensive’ and ‘exhausting’.

Anna Tyzack said she has given up trying to keep up with the ‘eye wateringly expensive affair[s]’.

Acknowledging Boris and Carrie Johnson’s eldest son’s big birthday bash, she remarked how grateful her three-year-old did not have social media.

Reminiscing about how simple and quaint children’s parties once were, Anna has decided to ditch the bouncy castles, ball pits and go back to small family gatherings.

‘It’s now normal to hire an entertainer for a party, along with a bouncy castle or soft play equipment,’ she told iNews.

The mother revealed she has given up trying to arrange birthday parties for her children as they have become ‘ridiculous’

‘Even at toddlers’ birthdays, I’ve seen balloon displays and bespoke cakes – reflecting the theme of course.

‘Parents are working so hard that they simply don’t have the time to arrange these themselves.’

A daunting guest list of 30 children before planning even begins is another reason why birthday parties are a sour note for the mother.

Explaining why believes children’s parties have become ‘so ridiculous’, the mother revealed it is now an obligation for the whole class to be invited.

According to Anna, some nurseries and primary schools even push parents to host a party with a class-load of children.

However, after organizing countless big birthday parties for her youngsters, including puppet shows and entertainers, Anna was faced with the realisation an ‘impersonal party’ may not be the best gift for her children.

Divulging how she once splurged on an indoor climbing party for her third son’s birthday – followed by some food – Anna discovered her child hadn’t enjoyed his big day at all.

Now, they have smaller gatherings with friends and family – something they appreciate more than ‘raucous’ parties, Anna says

The ‘raucous’ get-together meant her son and his friends were separated often leaving him disappointed – even if the party ‘cost a bomb’.

Following the big bash, her son asked when his ‘real’ birthday would be, leaving the mother’s eye twitching with rage.

After her boy asked to get pizza with some of his best friends, Anna had an epiphany.

The mother acknowledged a smaller party would have probably made her son happier

Now as her eldest children have surpassed the age of nine, Anna is confident they grown out of the birthday party pressure.

Now, it’s all about small gatherings with family and friends and tasty homemade cakes.

Explaining how her second son’s tenth birthday involved quality time with grandparents, lunch and a quick cold swim, the boy told his mother it was ‘his best birthday ever.’

She added: ‘I think for the first time he meant it.’

Although as a family they have ditched big celebrations for now, Anna is aware some ‘big fat children’s parties’ are in her future.

Noting how her youngest son, has been invited to several lavish children’s birthday parties, Anna knows she can’t avoid organising another elaborate soiree forever.

Even though her youngest boy may be raving about his friend’s animal-themed parties, Anna has managed to avoid a party for one more year – a both the family and the toddler’s friends are on holiday.
