TAGBILARAN CITY –  A total of 35,978 people received the COVID-19 vaccine on Monday, the first day of “Bayanihan Bakunahan,” the government’s three-day campaign to inoculate 9 million individuals at 8,000 sites nationwide.

Data from the provincial government of Bohol showed that the figure is short of the province’s daily target of 55,819.

Tagbilaran City has the highest vaccination rate with 3,805 inoculated against COVID-19, this is followed by Duero with 1, 143 vaccinees, Baclayon with 1,010 vaccinees and Dimiao with 618 vaccinees and Sikatuna with 285 vaccinees.

The numbers show that the people preferred to go to Tagbilaran City to receive their COVID-19 vaccines.

On Tuesday, hundreds of people trooped to the three vaccination sites, namely: —  Island City Mall, Alturas Mall and BQ Mall.

Others were lined up as early as 6 a. m. and waited for hours to receive their vaccinations.

Among them was 15-year-old Cedrick Losbañes, a resident of Cortes town who was accompanied by his mother, who waited for five hours to receive his Pfizer vaccine.

Others went to the city hall compound for the drive- thru vaccination which was intended for tricycle, public utility and private vehicle drivers.

The drive-thru, according to Mayor John Geesnell Yap II, was organized to speed up the vaccination in the city.

Yap said there were 3,805 individuals who were inoculated on Monday, which surpassed the targeted 2,300 individuals.

Nurse Liezel Inting-Catubig said the inoculation last Monday at Island City Mall finished at 10 p. m. to accommodate people who went to the site.

Yap is encouraging other unvaccinated residents to have themselves inoculated.

“We can’t rely on lockdowns to protect us when we have a vaccine that’s readily and freely available. We do our part to protect ourselves and our community,” said Yap who visited the vaccination sites on Tuesday. His wife, Jane, thru her “Gugma Tagbilaran” also distributed paracetamol tablets to vaccinated individuals.

In Bohol, in order to achieve herd immunity, should have at least 961,872 residents vaccinated against COVID-19. — BAP, GMA News
