'More gas on standby' will help to smooth out Australia's 'volatile' electricity
Rystad Energy Head of Gas and LNG Analytics Kaushal Ramesh discussed with Sky News Rystad Energy’s statement that Australia has the most volatile electricity grid in the world.
This follows on from the Labor government’s announcement to commit to gas power through to 2050 and beyond.
Mr Ramesh told Sky News Business Editor Ross Greenwood they judged this based on the “intra-day price fluctuations within the power market – particularly within the NEM [National Electricity Market]”.
“One of the features of the transition we’re observing … as a power system becomes more renewables heavy … we will see that the demand for gas-fired power becomes extremely volatile,” Mr Ramesh told Sky News Business Editor Ross Greenwood.
