Family in shock after death of 18-year-old boy who was pulled unconscious from backyard pool

A family is grieving the shock loss of their 18-year-old son after he was pulled unconscious from their pool shortly after entering it via a slippery dip.

Paramedics were called to the Yolanda Street address in Albion Park, Shellharbour south of Sydney, NSW about 2.15pm on Thursday.

The teen was found unresponsive and pulled from the water by a family member before ambulance officers arrived.

The 18-year-old was treated by paramedics at the property before being transported by road ambulance.

A crime scene was set up at the home by officers from Lake Illawarra Police district and forensic officers also visited the scene later on Thursday

However, paramedics were unable to revive him and he died at the scene.

The Illawarra Mercury reported it’s believed the teen’s death is being treated as a possible medical incident, and not as a drowning.

A family member had pulled him unresponsive from the water before paramedics arrived.

The teen has yet to be formally identified and a report will be prepared for the coroner.
