Reporter criticized for inappropriate remark to WNBA’s Caitlin Clark

Superstar Caitlin Clark, the NCAA’s all-time leading scorer, was drafted No. 1 overall by the WNBA’s Indiana Fever only a few days ago.

During her introductory press conference with the Fever, IndyStar reporter Gregg Doyel was in attendance and made a completely unprofessional remark. Doyel began by making a heart gesture with his hands towards Caitlin, who quickly replied, “You like that?”

Doyel responded, “I like that you’re here. I like that you’re here.”

Clark made light of the uncomfortable situation, saying, “I do that at my family after every game.”

“Okay, well, start doing it to me, and we’ll get along just fine,” Doyel replied.

Clark, one of the biggest names in women’s sports, was professional throughout the conversation, but social media didn’t react so kindly to Doyel’s comments.

Many fans were calling for Doyel’s media access to be revoked due to the situation, pointing out the potentially sexual implications behind the comment. One fan summarized the incident by saying: “What a weirdo. Be professional, you’re there to do your job.”

Doyel is one of the bigger names in the Indiana sports-media community, having amassed nearly 100,000 followers on X since joining in 2009.

A video of Doyel’s follow-up question surfaced, which didn’t go over well either. He asked Fever coach Christie Sides, “You just were given the keys to THAT [in reference to Clark]. What are you going to do with it?”

It remains to be seen how the Fever will handle this situation.
