The dynamic front row player Mohan Wimalaratne will lead the Police Sports Club Rugby team at the upcoming Nippon Paint Sri Lanka Rugby Major League XV-a-side Rugby Tournament scheduled to commence on 1st December
The former Mahanamian joined as a Sub Inspector of Sri Lanka Police, Mohan Wimalaratne has donned their rugby jersey for the past six years. He has played a dual role as a second row forward while he can play as a flanker when his team needs his services there. This season they are blessed with an experienced side which has been playing together for last few years. Last season they ended up in the sixth position at the end of the league competition points table.
They have infused some new faces to their pool especially school leavers. Navin Kanishka who led Isipathana last season has joined with Chamindu Dilshan while former schools mates Himash de Silva and W.M.M. Boteju who played for Air Force and CH & FC last season have signed up for Police this season. The Police squad is further strengthened withe inclusion of four players from St. Josephs College, Colombo and has included a player who donned the D.S.Senanayake jersey at the concluded schools season.
Former Havelocks scrum half Mithun Hapugoda and Hirantha Perera from CH have crossed over to strengthen the cops line up in this years tournament. Overall they have a pool of 59 players in their ranks and is expected to put up commendable performance eyeing the top position in the points table.
Nilfer Ibrahim an experienced coach in the rugby arena will continue his stint as the head coach. He has vast experience in coaching schools, clubs and also the National teams. This season is going to be a crucial year as they have a very experienced set of players as the management
expects to win the title on offer which they are capable of achieving it. Former Navy and Sri Lanka hooker Dulanjana Wijesinghe will deputise as the forwards coach. Police launch their campaign against Navy on the 2nd December at home.
