The Rajasthan Royals’ recent IPL 2024 defeat to the Delhi Capitals was marred by yet another soft dismissal of their young opener, Yashasvi Jaiswal. Following the match, India pacer Mohammed Shami vented his frustration regarding Jaiswal’s dismissal and questioned the southpaw for his uncontrolled aggression.

“Once again, Jaiswal seemed in a bit of a rush. He hit the first ball for a four. But then, he got out and he could only make those four runs. For some reason he seemed in a lot of hurry. He played an aggressive shot that was not needed and got out,” said Shami.

“It was not needed, he is in good touch and has recently scored a hundred. But against DC, he looked out of shape and gave away his wicket,” the 33-year-old added while speaking on a YouTube channel.

Jaiswal’s dismissal, which came via a miscued pull shot off a short delivery, proved to be a crucial as the Royals failed to get a promising start while chasing a huge total. This incident has put the spotlight back on Jaiswal’s technique against short balls

Former Indian cricketer Aakash Chopra also lamented Jaiswal’s struggles against short balls from left-arm seamers.

“When it was the turn for the run chase, Yashasvi Jaiswal got out to a left-arm pacer once again. He hasn’t got out to a short ball for the first time. He has been dismissed many times and got out once more. It was an almost similar shot and got caught in front of the wickets,” he said

“Buttler got a life but Axar (Patel) dismissed him as well. Riyan Parag played well for a short while, played one or two good shots, but then he too got out. When he got out to Rasikh Salam’s back-of-the-hand slower one, it seemed like things would get stuck,” Chopra observed.
