It may still be winter, but there’s no shortage of hot new products in the freezer aisle. A few weeks ago, Ben & Jerry’s released two new sweet-and-salty flavors that were some of the best I had ever tried from the beloved ice cream brand. Well, now Ben & Jerry’s is back in the news, and it’s for a very sweet reason. The brand is bringing a fan-favorite flavor that was exclusive to Scoop Shops for years to the freezer aisle for the first time.

Ben & Jerry’s Introduces New Marshmallow Sky

Ben & Jerry’s

Ben & Jerry’s just introduced a new pint to its lineup and it’s the brand’s most colorful one yet. Here to cure any and all winter blues is the bright blue Marshmallow Sky flavor. Marshmallow Sky features a marshmallow-flavored ice cream base with marshmallow creme swirls and “gobs” of chocolate- and chocolate-chocolate chip cookie doughs. Double the dough, double the fun, right?

The pint gets its blue hue from spirulina extract, a naturally bright blue-green algae that doesn’t impart any flavor but makes for the most vibrant culinary coloring. It’s commonly used in the natural food dyes used by stores like Trader Joe’s and Aldi.

Marshmallow Sky was inspired by the blue sky with clouds on all of Ben & Jerry’s pints, but this one in particular is special. That’s because Marshmallow Sky was a fan-favorite flavor in Ben & Jerry’s ice cream shops but never available in pint form—that is, until now. For a limited time, the flavor is coming to store shelves nationwide.

I got a chance to try Marshmallow Sky alongside Ben & Jerry’s other new flavors back in December, and let me be the first to say—it’s another winner. I can see why fans begged the brand to turn it into cartons. This is for the marshmallow lovers, big and small. While blue-hued ice creams typically are just dyed vanilla, this one tastes almost malted, and more complex than vanilla with a pleasantly marshmallowy finish. The mix-ins are top-notch (no surprise for Ben & Jerry’s) and the marshmallow creme swirl brought me back to childhood in the best way. I wasn’t even one to order “Cookie Monster” or “Cotton Candy” ice cream as a kid, and this still captures nostalgia in a pint for me.

As is the case with all Ben & Jerry’s “Limited Batch” flavors, when it’s gone, it’s gone, so treat your inner child and try this periwinkle pint while you can.
