‘BJP needs him for that reason … ‘: Himanta Sarma takes dig at Rahul Gandhi

NEW DELHI: Himanta Biswa Sarma on Thursday claimed that the BJP will win all seats in Assam covered by Rahul Gandhi’s “Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra.” Taking a dig at Rahul, the Assam chief minister said “The BJP will win wherever he campaigns. The BJP needs him for that reason.”

The Assam chief minister had yesterday said that Rahul Gandhi will be arrested after the Lok Sabha polls. Assam police has filed an FIR against Rahul and other Congress leaders over their clash with cops when his Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra was not allowed to enter Guwahati city. Himanta Biswa Sarma had directed the police to lodge an FIR against the Congress leader and also formed an SIT to conduct investigations.

Karnataka Congress leader Priyank Kharge, who is the son of Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge, tagged a news report on Sarma’s statement and questioned why the Assam CM was waiting for Lok Sabha elections to arrest Rahul Gandhi.

“Why wait for the Lok Sabha elections @himantabiswa ji? If @RahulGandhi ji has broken the law, why don’t you go ahead and do the needful. You won’t do that, because you are fully aware that he speaks the truth, you did not stand up for your neighbors in Manipur and are looting the people of Assam. He is merely echoing people’s sentiments which scares you!” Priyank Kharge posted on X.

Himanta Biswa Sarma responded to this tweet with a one-line remark “We need Rahul Gandhi during election brother.”

Priyank hit back at Himanta and targeted PM Modi in his response.

“Bhaisaab! Even after 10 years, you need your star campaigners Godhi Media, CBI, IT, ED. Take them out of the equation and you will see your castles crumbling. Your leader cannot sit through a press conference nor address without a teleprompter forget doing a Padhyatra with the people,” the Karnataka Congress MLA said.

Himanta Sarma and Rahul Gandhi have been engaged in a bitter war of words with both openly targeting each other. Rahul has called Himanta the most corrupt chief minister in the country. The Assam chief minister has called the Congress leader Ravan and darpok (coward).
